Winterizing the Park

Another awesome season has ended and some might think that we slow down here at Cedar Point, but nothing could be further from the truth. Our team has been busy winterizing locations, including Hotel Breakers where you can see where our landscaping team has come through and removed the flower and plant life so the beds can be ready for new plants in the spring.

Have you wondered where all the beach and pool furniture goes when we’re closed? Wonder no more!

It’s stored in the indoor pool area at Hotel Breakers to prevent damage during our harsh winters here on the shores of Lake Erie.

Our food & beverage locations are getting prepared for winter too. For example, in Hugo’s Italian Kitchen, all the tables and chairs are moved to one side of the restaurant to make room to store equipment from outdoor locations. This prevents extra wear from the elements until we open again.

As soon as we close our gates for the season, our maintenance team works hard to take off all ride and roller coaster vehicles, trains, cars, etc. They all go through an overhaul process where they are cleaned, inspected and made ready for next season.

Magnum XL-200 is seen here coming off the tracks with a giant crane. The actual process of taking the trains off the track doesn’t take long at all, and they moved to Cedar Creek Mine Ride in the same afternoon.

The cars on Steel Vengeance are ready to head to the maintenance shop too.

The overhaul process on Top Thrill Dragster starts with removing all the fiberglass coverings which has already been complete. These train cars will go one-by-one to one of our maintenance shops where they will be stripped down even further and reassembled before the fiberglass coverings go back on.

All the Gemini cars are being taken to The Amazement Shop right down the road from the Cedar Point Peninsula where they will receive the overhaul treatment as well.

Here’s Troika, Troika, Troika without any of its vehicles on the main structure. Where are they right now?

They are right across the midway!

Some of the family and childrens' ride vehicles will wait on the midway until our team is ready to work on them.

On my journey through the park this week, I found something neat.

This was on the stage during Boneyard Battleground during HalloWeekends. What could it mean? Seems like a clue for something?

As we go through the winter, we'll be sure to share even more park photos (maybe even covered in snow!).
