It's Not Magic, It's Science - Valravn
It’s time for the next installment of It’s Not Magic, It’s Science!
This week, we’re focusing on sensors and the role they play in keeping you safe while on your favorite Cedar Point rides. Rockwell Automation’s Global STEM Ambassador, Jay Flores, explains and explores the science behind the KING of all DIVE coasters, Valravn.
This roller coaster is one of my personal favorites at the park, and with so many to choose from at America’s Roller Coast®, the bar is set pretty high. No floor below your feet, nothing above you but sky, you climb 223 feet until you reach the top of the first hill, dangle over the edge for what feels like an eternity before dropping at a 90-degree angle. The ride is so smooth, you truly feel like you’re flying!
But how does Valravn know to stop at the top of the hill to hold you over the edge? How does it know how long to hold you there and when to drop you? It’s all about the sensors and programmable logic controllers, and in this second “It’s Not Magic, It’s Science” video, Jay is going to show you how this works.
The full video can be viewed here.
We have three more “It’s Not Magic, It’s Science” videos to share with you over the next 2 months leading up to May 14 – Opening Day. In case you missed our first installment, you can find it here.
Happy Watching!
