It All Starts Today

Today is the day.

It’s a day that all of us on the Cedar Point team have been waiting for since December 11, 2019.

On that day, we gathered together in the historic Hotel Breakers rotunda to share our 150th anniversary plans with the world – all live on YouTube for everyone to see.

Our excitement was palpable…overwhelming...uncontainable and undefeatable.

And then we were (temporarily) defeated. Everything had paused in 2020 in the name of safety, and rightly so. But of course, it came with a heaping amount of disappointment. Everything we had planned had sort of evaporated, and we had no idea at the time if any of it would ever return.

Until today.

Some 419 days later than we had hoped, we have arrived. Our 150th Anniversary Celebration, albeit for a limited 51-day run, begins today.

This milestone is clearly significant. As the second-oldest amusement park in the nation, we still stand today alongside the oldest: Lake Compounce in Connecticut – a park that has, like us, survived recessions, pandemics, wars and a whole lot of highs and lows. As we celebrate our own milestone, a very special heartfelt congrats to their team on 175 years of fun.

As a Wisconsin boy, I had only heard of Cedar Point through friends and by seeing big shows about the park on The Travel Channel or Discovery, and I had always thought, “I really need to visit that place.”

Millennium Force was the inspiration for my first road trip here in 2000. I couldn’t believe there was a roller coaster that was THAT BIG being built; I had to ride it. And every year since then, visiting had become a new tradition for me and my friends. I fell in love with the place so much, I knew I had to work here, and I was fortunate enough to begin that journey in 2005.

Every Cedar Point story – including yours – is different, and that’s what makes this place so special. It’s not the rides, the funnel cakes, the beach or the old-timey Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad – it’s the people. People like you…people like me…people that long for new experiences to share and new stories to tell.

Even in 1870 when there were no roller coasters or even one square foot of midway poured, it was about people spending time together. The beautiful beach was clearly the draw, but it was the experience of being together that really captured the essence of The Point.

Today, our team invites you to enjoy many new experiences and to create new memories and traditions during this momentous occasion.

You know, the other day, I was overcome with emotion when I first saw our Celebrate 150 Spectacular parade roll down the midway. I, like many, am so proud of the place where I get to spend my time every day and the team that spent so much time putting all of this together for you.

From Lisa and the entire Live Entertainment crew from Cedar Point, Cedar Fair and our sister parks who collaborated to create the most amazing parade; to Chris, Chef RJ and the culinary team who have spent countless hours creating new menus, opening new locations, and yes, bringing back those old school juice bottles (they were NOT easy to recreate).

It continues with Cindy and the Marketing team who brought the amazing Ticket of a Lifetime promotion to life; Carrie, Chris and the Merchandise crew figuring out the types of anniversary keepsakes you would want to bring home; Maintenance and Operations who continue to keep the best rides on the planet going for you to enjoy, including opening the new ones like Snake River Expedition; our Accommodations team, ensuring your Cedar Point tradition continues with a comfortable overnight stay; Safety & Security, keeping all of us safe while at the park; and behind-the-scenes teams like Finance, Logistics, Park Services, Human Resources and Information Technology.

We can’t forget all of the seasonal associates who help bring Cedar Point to life each day, from the moment you cross the tollbooth to the time you get back to your car at night.

And don’t think I’m leaving YOU out. Without you, and the millions and millions before you who have set foot on this peninsula since 1870 by ferry or by automobile, Cedar Point wouldn’t be here. Your love for this place, your desire to escape the ordinary and your sense of pride in this American summertime tradition is second to none.

As you can see, it’s not about rides, coasters, fries or sandy beaches – it still comes back to the people.

For our entire park team, the amount of time, hard work and effort that has gone into making this celebration something special has been like climbing the highest mountain. For the next 51 days, it’s time to revel in the results of the long journey it took to get here. It’s time to party.

Together, let’s savor these moments; let’s begin new traditions and cherish the old ones; let’s Get To The Point…to America’s Rockin’ Roller Coast®…to The Queen of American Watering Places…to A Place Like No Other®.

The Fun Is Just Beginning.
