2022 Purpose Awards
Making People Happy.
Perhaps you’ve heard us say this a few times. Maybe you’ve seen it in a social post when we talk about recruiting for summer positions. Maybe you’ve experienced our team put it into physical practice during your visit to the park.
Last week, we recognized it in a different way – with the first-ever Cedar Fair Purpose Awards.
The new Cedar Fair Purpose Awards were created to honor those on our team that live our purpose – to Make People Happy. Nominees bring people together; they turn negative situations into positive experiences for all; they demonstrate care and genuine interest about people.
What makes the award so special is that the nominations are submitted by our co-workers. Those nominations come with stories and examples of how each associate is making people happy. There were 71 total nominees here at Cedar Point, and most of them are pictured here:
If you’re a fan of our sister Cedar Fair parks, I encourage you to visit their social media accounts and see the Purpose Award winners at their parks that are truly making a difference.
Now, I’d like to share with you our Cedar Point winners and some of the wonderful things their co-workers wrote about them on their nomination.
Abby Lewellen – Bay Harbor
“She always goes above and beyond to make her customers and our associates happy. She tries to learn what her customers like and always makes them feel welcome and appreciated. She enjoys making customers happy; she genuinely cares.”
Bryan Butts – Food & Beverage
“Whatever the time of day, rain or shine, if you walk into the main kitchen, you hear Bryan's voice, he puts a smile on your face and your step becomes a little lighter. Brian has successfully found the formula; he makes those that provide our guests with happy experiences, happy themselves.”
Dennis Sullivan – Maintenance
“Dennis brings the shop together by fostering a positive culture and keeps morale high. He rethinks the ‘we have always done it this way’ attitude; he keeps what works and tries to change the things that don't.”
Dotty Wright – Sawmill Creek Resort
“Since day one of becoming a Cedar Point associate, Dotty has demonstrated care and general interest about people, co-workers and guests. She's always laughing and talking with guests as if she has known them for years. Any ask of her she did it immediately and with a smile on her face. She brought joy all golf-season long.”
Lisa Smith – Games
“The list of examples to Lisa's acts of kindness could never be complete because it continues to grow. When anyone needs a person to talk to, Lisa (aka Mama Lisa), is the one they look for. She takes every associate under her wing and makes sure they are taken care of and provided for. She is compassionate and genuinely concerned about all her associates.”
Suzie Ahlers – Cedar Point Tollbooth
“Suzie is a beacon of light and happiness as she joyfully greets every guest and associate. She singlehandedly sets every human up for a wonderful fun-filled day with her brightness. Beyond her demonstrating extreme care and genuine interest in others, Suzie also inspires others to create happiness.”
