Cedar Point Amusement Park Update

Park: Closed Waterpark: Closed View Hours
August 4, 2020 Update

A Message from Jason McClure, Vice President and General Manager of Cedar Point

Cedar Point has been thrilled to welcome guests back to the park this year.  2020 has truly been a unique season, and I thank our guests and team members for making Cedar Point a fun and safe place to visit. We appreciate everyone’s support and cooperation with the park’s new health and safety measures – we are getting through this together.

Because of the ongoing uncertainties surrounding COVID-19, we have had to make some important decisions regarding the remainder of 2020. Here are some updates we’d like to share:

  • A new “Tricks and Treats Fall Fest” will be introduced starting September 12. This event will take the place of HalloWeekends for 2020 only, and has been designed with unique entertainment, food and activities for all ages. This event will enable better social distancing and capacity management. You’ll hear more exciting details in the coming weeks.
  • Post Labor Day, Cedar Point will be open Saturdays & Sundays only, with the last operating day of the 2020 season expected to be Sunday, November 1.

Keep in mind that all 2020 Season Passes and add-on products have been extended through the 2021 season. We’re looking forward to a great year ahead and can’t wait to show you a host of ways to have fun, including:

  • Our rescheduled 150th Anniversary Celebration;
  • The Snake River Expedition family adventure ride;
  • The Celebrate 150 Spectacular parade and street party; and
  • The continuation of our Ticket of a Lifetime contest, with new opportunities to win while inside the park.

2021 Season Passes will be available for purchase beginning September 8, 2020. We all look forward to having fun safely for the rest of 2020 and beyond. There are many days left for summer fun, and we hope to see you in the park soon.

Cedar Point to Begin 2020 Season With Phased Opening

SANDUSKY, Ohio – Cedar Point has put stringent health, safety and hygiene protocols in place to allow a safe opening. The park will open initially for Season Passholders only, and shortly thereafter for Cedar Point Resorts guests and guests who have pre-purchased tickets.

Cedar Point’s tentative opening dates:

  • July 9 – 10: park open to 2020 Cedar Point Season, Gold and Platinum Passholders only
  • Beginning July 11: park open to Cedar Point Resorts guests and 2020 Cedar Point Season, Gold and Platinum Passholders
  • Already announced: Cedar Point’s Hotel Breakers and Lighthouse Point RV sites will be open June 12 – 27, prior to Cedar Point’s opening

“The safety of all of our guests and associates has always been, and will always be our top priority. We’re looking forward to returning to summertime fun in a safe and healthy manner,” said Jason McClure, vice president and general manager of Cedar Point. “We’ve implemented new safety protocols throughout the property that align with the recommendations of health and safety experts. With that guidance, we’re ready and excited to welcome our guests and associates back to Cedar Point.”

New cleanliness, health, and safety protocols at Cedar Point include:

Reservations for a Visit – in order to maintain limited capacity each operating day, all guests, including Season Passholders, will be required to make a reservation to visit the park though the Cedar Point mobile app or at cedarpoint.com. In a few weeks prior to park opening, 2020 Cedar Point Season, Gold or Platinum Passholders will receive an invitation to make reservations first, followed by guests who have pre-purchased day tickets. Reservation availability for guests who have not yet purchased a park ticket will be announced at a later date.

Guests who stay at a Cedar Point Resorts property will have guaranteed entry to Cedar Point for each night of their stay, but must purchase a ticket or have a 2020 Season Pass.

Health Screening – all guests must complete a health screening declaration within the Cedar Point mobile app 24 hours prior to entering the park.

Temperature Screening – guests and associates will undergo a touchless temperature screening prior to entering the park.

Face Coverings – guests and associates will be required to wear a mask at all times.

Social Distancing – markers and signage will be placed throughout the park to assist with social distancing of at least six feet.

Additional protocols include touchless transactions, limited guest/associate contact, enhanced cleaning procedures in high-touch areas, dining locations, hotel rooms and restrooms, capacity management through the park and additional hand sanitization stations.

Guests are invited to download the free Cedar Point mobile app to facilitate their visit to the park and to make a reservation when they become available. For more information, visit cedarpoint.com.

A Message from Richard Zimmerman, CEO, Cedar Fair Entertainment Company

As a result of ongoing discussions with Ohio Gov. Mike DeWine and Lt. Gov. John Husted, we are very pleased to announce that our Ohio parks, including Cedar Point and Kings Island, have been cleared to reopen. We will provide specific opening dates just as soon as we confirm details with the governor. We appreciate the cooperation and support of all those that are working hard to help us and the state of Ohio reopen.

We plan to continue conversations with the governor and lieutenant governor that have helped reach a positive resolution for all parties. We also owe a big thank you to our local city, county and state officials who have assisted us throughout this process. The reopening of our parks is crucial to the economic viability of Erie County and Warren County, and we look forward to getting back to business and hope that other states will follow Ohio’s lead in reopening parks around the country.

We are taking every necessary precaution to keep our guests and associates safe in accordance with governmental and CDC directives, Erie County and Warren County health departments, medical professionals, Ohio’s Development Services Agency (DSA) and industry best practices. Cedar Fair’s capacity-controlled, family-friendly properties at Cedar Point and Kings Island, coupled with the operational expertise of our seasoned park professionals, ensures an environment where predictable observance and enforcement of social distancing and COVID-19 protocols can be achieved. More details about our safety measures and what to expect when visiting our Ohio parks will be released closer to the opening date.

We cannot wait to welcome back our loyal guests to Ohio’s treasured amusement parks, which have brought fun and happiness to generations of families.

A Message from Richard Zimmerman, CEO, Cedar Fair Entertainment Company

Cedar Fair fully supports the amendment to HB 665 that was adopted today in the House Agriculture and Rural Development Committee. The amendment provides for the immediate re-opening of Ohio amusement parks and water parks.

We fully anticipate and expect having the same opportunity granted to other businesses in Ohio to operate our business in a safe and manageable environment.

As professional amusement park operators with an exemplary safety record, we are experts at managing risks and following protocols. The protocols we have developed to reopen our parks are in accordance with governmental and CDC directives, Erie County and Warren County Health Departments, medical professionals, Ohio’s Development Services Agency (DSA) and industry best practices. They are specifically responsive to the COVID-19 crisis.

Our capacity controlled, family friendly properties at Cedar Point and Kings Island, coupled with the operational expertise of our seasoned park professionals who work there, provides for an environment where predictable observance and enforcement of social distancing and COVID-19 protocols can be achieved.

This legislation not only benefits Cedar Point, Kings Island, and their guests, but also the economic viability of the local citizenry and surrounding Ohio communities.

We look forward to welcoming back our loyal guests to Ohio’s treasured amusement parks, which have brought fun and happiness to generations of families.

A Message from Jason McClure, Vice President & General Manager of Cedar Point

As the coronavirus (COVID-19) matter remains a part of our daily lives, the team at Cedar Point continues to work with health and safety experts as we plan for increased safety measures and operational changes throughout our park. We are in constant communication with our state and federal governments and are looking forward to welcoming you back just as soon as it is safe to do so. Although our reopen date is still uncertain, here are a few things we can share:

  • Our team is working hard to ensure some of your favorite rides and attractions will be ready for you when the park is able to open. In the meantime, be sure to visit TicketofaLifetime.com each week to register and enter for your chance to win free admission for life!
  • Our 150th Anniversary Celebration, along with its attractions and festivities such as the Snake River Expedition ride, Town Hall Museum and Celebrate 150 Spectacular immersive nighttime parade and show will be postponed to 2021. Our team determined that a celebration of this magnitude must be done right.  In order to observe and respect social distancing, we have made the decision to postpone this much anticipated event until next season.
  • Special events like Performances in the Park, Spring Youth & Education Programs, CoasterMania!, Frontier Festival, Coaster Campout, Run & Ride and Season Passholder Appreciation Weekend will be postponed to 2021.
  • Experiences like VIP, Sunrise, Segway and Boardwalk Cruiser Tours will also be postponed until 2021.

As previously announced, we have extended the validity of all 2020 Season Passes and Season Pass Add-On Products through the 2021 season, plus we have paused Easy Pay billing while the park is closed*. Likewise, we will continue to work with guests who may have prepaid single-day tickets valid for days during our temporary park closure. Ticket inquiries may be directed to cedarpoint.com/contact. Our team is also reaching out individually to guests with Group Sales and Cedar Point Resorts bookings.

The safety of our guests and associates has always been and will always be our top priority. We want to assure you that when we do open, Cedar Point will continue to be a safe and fun environment for all. Our team is 100% committed to this promise. And we are working alongside industry experts and government officials toward this shared goal. We will keep you updated as we move forward; in the meantime, we thank you for your loyalty and continued support.

  • Additionally, we will extend the validity dates for current 2020 Season Passes* (as well as purchased 2020 Season Pass Add-On Products) through the 2021 Season according to pass type.
  • For 2020 Season Passholders participating in our Easy Pay Program, monthly billing has been suspended as of April 8, 2020, and will remain suspended while the park is closed.  When the park reopens, billing will resume.  Passholders will need to be current on payments to receive both 2020 and 2021 Season Pass admission and associated benefits.

At Cedar Fair, the safety and well-being of our Guests and Associates are always our top priorities.

As we continue to follow regional and national health directives related to COVID-19, we want to provide the latest update regarding our park schedule. Currently, our Castaway Bay Resort hotel is temporarily closed. It is our hope to reopen that property mid-May or as soon thereafter as possible. Likewise, we plan to open Cedar Point, all Cedar Point Resorts properties and the Cedar Point Marinas mid-May or as soon thereafter as possible. We believe this decision is in the best interest of our associates, our guests, and our communities.

We will work with Guests who have an existing reservation or prepaid single-day ticket during the time period of our park closure. For prepaid ticket inquiries, please submit your request at: www.cedarpoint.com/contact-us. For hotel re-bookings, please contact us at cpresorts@cedarpoint.com.

We will be temporarily closing Knott’s Berry Farm in Buena Park, CA and both Schlitterbahn Waterparks in New Braunfels and Galveston Island, Texas effective Saturday, March 14. In addition, we will also be postponing the opening of California’s Great America in Santa Clara, CA, Kings Dominion, in Doswell, VA and Carowinds in Charlotte, NC until the first weekend of April.
