Cedar Point has an opening in its Food Services Division for Sous Chef. This position will report to the Executive Sous Chef.

Job Description

The Sous Chef must be able to show a strong knowledge of back of house operations as well as participate in the preparation and execution of all banquets. Provide assistance with purchasing, inventory, and any administrative needs. Must be able to work a flexible schedule, including nights and weekends.

Essential Duties:

  • Oversees and assigns the daily work of employees in assigned cost center, provides training, coaching, counseling and tracking regarding employees’ performance; refers disciplinary issues upward and provides back up documentation to support actions including discipline, promotion, demotion and termination; assists in preparing and conducting performance appraisals with each direct report on an annual basis.
  • Trains and directs staff in providing guest service according to Cedar Fair standards on an overall basis; serves as an example to personnel by following guest service standards; takes appropriate actions to correct poor guest service or recognize superior guest service; responds to and resolves more complex typical guest concerns that cannot be resolved at the unit level.
  • Communicates with associates one to two levels above/below in verbal or written formats. Communications range from simple instructions to more involved memos, procedures, training materials, etc.
  • Consult daily with the Executive Chef and/or the Executive Sous Chef to insure successful operational results.
  • Resourcefully solve any issues that arise and seize control of any problematic situation.
  • Up hold all company rules and policies, and those implemented by the Executive Chef.
  • Follow daily/monthly cleaning lists.
  • Assist in the planning and daily production of employee meals.
  • Ensure that all food storage spaces are kept organized and free of debris and outdated product.
  • Up hold company standards and guidelines for food preparation and presentation.
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers.
  • Comply with and enforce sanitation regulations and safety standards.
  • Order supplies to stock inventory appropriately.
  • Fill in for the Executive Sous Chef in planning and directing food preparation when necessary.
  • Production and execution of all food items for catered Events.
  • Ensure that the kitchen operates in a timely way that meets our quality standards.
  • Adheres to and enforces all Cedar Fair and specific Park policies and procedures, including safety, attendance and EEO policies, and demonstrates commitment to customer service in all aspects of employment.
  • Other duties may be assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • This position requires culinary experience of 2-4 years in a high volume kitchen operation.
  • A culinary degree is preferred.
  • Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment and procedures.
  • Accuracy and speed in handling emergency situations and providing solutions.
  • Familiar with industry’s best practices.
  • Operation of all standard kitchen equipment, including but not limited to; convection oven, slicer, robot coupe, tilt skillet, steamer, and mixer.
  • Above average knife skills.
  • Working knowledge of various computer software programs (MS Office Suite (Excel and Word mandatory), restaurant management software, POS).
  • Ability to pass a mandatory (or random) drug test, per Company policy, unless prohibited by state or provincial law.
  • Ability to pass a background check, if 18 years of age or older, which may include, but is not limited to, credit, criminal, DMV, previous employment, education and personal references, per Company policy, unless prohibited by federal, or state law.
  • Ability to work nights, weekends and holiday periods to meet business needs.
  • ServSafe.
  • ServSafe Alcohol.
