Tony's 2019 Season Tidbits

May 10, 2019

The countdown is on. Our 2019 season begins tomorrow.

And before we start, I wanted to share just a few things that you may find interesting or useful. In no particular order...

  1. Don't go to Raptor first. This is one of our best go-to tips. Every time someone asks me what our top tips & tricks are, I make sure I say this. It's easy to see why it's busy in the morning - it's the first ride most guests see when they arrive. Go check out the smaller attractions or some of the thrill rides, then come back. Go against the grain!
  2. Walk the Boardwalk. A lot of our visitors are surprised to learn we have a boardwalk. And a beach. And a hotel that's right on said beach. Get that hand stamped (or walk from the main parking lot) and take a stroll - you'll understand why visitors were drawn to this place back in 1870.
  3. Help us help you. This is a big one. We want to do whatever we can to ensure your visit is great. But we need your help, too. If you're not having a great experience, please give us the opportunity to fix it while you're here. Oftentimes, we read comments and questions after guests have gone home, and some of them list the things that didn't meet their expectations, but we were given no opportunity to fix them at the park. And we realize sometimes, that's not feasible in the moment. But I look at it like this - if I went to a fancy steak restaurant and the steak wasn't cooked right, I'd send it back and have it fixed. Mainly because I'm hungry and it needs to be solved right away. (I'm hungry right now as I'm typing this, but nobody is offering steak. Hugo's it is!) Same concept here. Tell us. We're here to make things right, to the best of our abilities. And don't hesitate to ask for a member of our supervision team.
  4. Weather is weird. This is a constant. Most days, everything's fine. But it's always those strange windy days where it's blowing in a specific direction and some rides can run and some can't, some are affected by rain and some aren't, and it's a little nutty. We're constantly monitoring the weather, so if you see an attraction closed (and you don't feel any wind or see any lightning), either it's windy up at the top of the ride, or we see lightning and severe weather coming, so we're closing a ride in advance. Thanks for your patience (in advance).
  5. Ride wait time reporting is improved. We didn't talk about it much over the winter, but behind the scenes, we've been working on improving how our ride wait times are reported to you through our FREE mobile app. Without getting into detail, this season, they should be more reliable and accurate, all thanks to your feedback from last season.
  6. Cedar Point's setting is unmatched. You know, I never take my job for granted. That drive across the Causeway gives me goosebumps every. single. time. And once you've seen the view of this place from waaaaaay above (Valravn is pretty awesome for some good panoramic views of the park), you really understand how special this place is. And it looks good for being almost 150! There are many other places you could go on vacation, but you've chosen us. And for that, we're grateful.
  7. Have fun - you're not at work! There have been various forms of this statement, but my favorite is: "Any day at Cedar Point is better than a day at _________," where the blank is literally any place you don't want to be. This is an escape. It's a chance to get away. It's my Happy Place, and I know it's the same for a lot of you. So ride some of the best rides on the planet, chill on the most beautiful beach in the Midwest and most importantly, create some new moments and traditions together. Let the FUN begin!
