We are extremely proud to say we are one of only 3 theme parks in the country to operate a coal-fired steam locomotive fleet. It's something that can easily be taken for granted, given that we ride it, we hear it and we feel it when we're in the park, not even stopping to think more about how and why it still exists today.

Perhaps it's just a method of transportation for some; but it's a living, breathing thing of beauty for most.

This weekend, we celebrate 50 years of the Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad. While things have changed over the years, one thing remains the same - the look and feel of history. Moving, steaming and chugging around our peninsula.

Earlier today, we held a special ceremony recognizing that fact. And with General Manager John Hildebrandt, Snoopy, and our first "guest conductor" family (the Osburn Family from Columbus), we cut the ribbon and opened up the day's events.

This weekend, we're offering tours of our engine house, something that you rarely ever get to see in person. Also, we're handing out commemorative pins when you stop by (while supplies last).

AND - we'll be looking for guest conductors at random for the rest of the season to help us out. Below, you'll see the special conductor button you'll receive if chosen, and the commemorative pin we're giving out this weekend.

Finally, something really special. Our latest PointCast shows you just a small sample of the hard work and dedication it takes to keep this railroad up and running.

Credit goes out to intern Jordan who did most of the editing on this one. Take a look. As always, watch in HD for the best quality. We hope you enjoy it.

Man...that was an excellent video.

Love the train! We ride it multiple times during our visits every summer. Sometimes just to get back and forth, sometimes we stay on for a few laps to rest our tired legs and sometimes just because we enjoy it so much! This CP Lake Erie Railroad is part of my families summer vacation history. The kids are getting older and it is getting harder and harder to squeeze in a few days for a visit. I sure hope we make it this year as I would love to take the behind the scenes tour. Great job on the video. Thanks for sharing!!!
