Roller Coasters

Known as the “Roller Coaster Capital of the World,” Cedar Point amusement park/resort in Sandusky, Ohio, has thrilled millions with the most coasters anywhere – 17 to be exact.  From the swinging family fun of Iron Dragon to the sudden twists and turns on the latest scream machine, Maverick, there’s a coaster for every thrill-seeker.

Maverick

It’s 4,450 feet of wild trail-blazing action!  Low-to-the-ground maneuvers, quick turns and an exciting launch through a 400-foot-long tunnel made Maverick the coaster voted the “Best New Ride of 2007” by the readers of Amusement Today newspaper.

Top Thrill Dragster

Cedar Point stunned the world in 2003 when it built Top Thrill Dragster, one of the tallest and fastest coasters in the world!  Riders reach speeds of 120 mph as they’re launched straight up a 420-foot-tall tower and spiral 270 degrees back down toward the Earth below reaching speeds of 120 mph for the second time!

Millennium Force

Consistently named the “Best Steel Roller Coaster in the World” since its debut in 2000, the Force is with its riders as they crest a 310-foot-tall lift hill and enjoy extended amounts of airtime.  Millennium Force’s three trains reach a top speed of 93 mph during the 2-minute, 30-second ride.

Raptor

Standing 137 feet above the midway, Raptor rules the sky at Cedar Point!  Suspended below 3,790 feet of steel tubular track in ski lift-style seats, riders are flipped upside down six times during their flight.  Built in 1994, Raptor will celebrate its 15th anniversary this summer.

Magnum XL-200

Introduced in 1989, the 20-year-old Magnum XL-200 is widely considered to be one of the best roller coasters ever built.  Situated along the Lake Erie coastline, Magnum features a 205-foot-tall first hill, three dark tunnels and plenty of airtime.  It was the first roller coaster in the world to top the 200-foot-tall threshold and exceed 70 mph!

Disaster Transport

It’s a dark journey with unseen turns and unexpected drops.  Located next to Wicked Twister, Disaster Transport is an enclosed coaster that offers a ride like no other to those who have no fear of the dark.

Mantis

Can you stand it?  Mantis, Cedar Point’s stand-up coaster, provides an exciting ride from start to finish.  Riders drop down a 145-foot-tall first hill at a top speed of 60 mph and maneuver through turns, twists and upside-down elements.

Blue Streak

Built in 1964, Blue Streak is Cedar Point’s oldest operating roller coaster.  It will celebrate its 45th anniversary this summer!  This wooden classic still gives plenty of thrills and airtime as it drops down a 78-foot-tall lift hill and travels alongside the Raptor inverted coaster and Point Pavilion picnic area.

Mean Streak

Introduced as the tallest and fastest wooden roller coaster in 1991, Mean Streak stands 161 feet above Frontiertown.  Guests fly in and out of the massive wooden structure during the 3-minute, 10-second ride.

Gemini

Who will win?  Red or blue?  Cedar Point’s racing coaster Gemini has a wooden structure with a steel tubular track.  Riders race each other along 3,935 feet of track reaching speeds of 60 mph.

Jr. Gemini

It’s a great starting point for the young coaster-enthusiast.  At only 19 feet tall with a top speed of 6 mph, Jr. Gemini is designed especially for the little ones.  The best part?  Special seats allow parents and grandparents to ride along.  The Jr. Gemini first opened in 1979 and will celebrate its 30th anniversary in 2009!

Iron Dragon

Soar above the treetops and dive toward a lagoon on the Iron Dragon.  Suspended below the track, riders sway from side to side as they travel along the twisting course.

Corkscrew

This one broke two world records when it opened in 1976!  Corkscrew was the first coaster to feature three inversions.  It was also the first coaster to span a park midway, giving guests on the ground a different perspective of this triple-looping classic.

Wicked Twister

Still the world’s tallest and fastest double-twisting “impulse coaster.”  Wicked Twister riders are thrust forward three times and backward twice on a U-shaped track as they spiral 280 degrees straight up and straight down!

Wildcat

A family favorite, WildCat takes its riders on a fun journey over airtime-filled hills, quick turns and circular spirals.  You won’t turn upside down on this coaster, but you will return with a smile on your face.

Woodstock Express

Located in Camp Snoopy, Woodstock Express chugs along its twisting, turning track at a top speed of 25 mph.  Parents have the opportunity to ride with their children on this “must-do” beginner coaster.  Built in 1999, Woodstock Express will celebrate its 10th anniversary this summer!

Cedar Creek Mine Ride

One of Cedar Point’s oldest operating coasters, the Mine Ride takes riders on a runaway journey over water, around quick turns and to the top of two lift hills.  Opened in 1969, the Cedar Creek Mine Ride has been a Frontiertown tradition for 40 years.
