Show and Tell

It's Friday. Isn't that typically show & tell day? We have a few things to show you. First, we had a repeat performance of yesterday's bizarre foggy weather and we captured another photo for you to see: We've always said that our weather on Lake Erie is, well, Eerie. There you go. Totally unrelated to the weather, I forgot to post a screen shot of Cedar Point on the Today Show. If you recall, I was there to support our Rock Band, Live auditions, so I decided to head over to Rockefeller Plaza to say hi to Matt, Meredith and Al, along with my friend Chuck from Dorney Park. Hilarity ensued. And if you missed it.... Finally, Shoot the Rapids construction is moving along, and the station roof is now being erected. There's lots more to see over in our construction gallery!

Combine one part cool evening, one part snow and ice still on the ground and the lake, and two parts warm temps during the day and you get this: Rides and coasters so high they climb above the clouds! Keep your eye on the park webcams - you never know what you'll see.

The Big Winner

Congratulations are in order. Remember when we asked you to vote for Chris Linn a while back? Well, the results are in and Chris was named "Entertainer of the Year!" He received his award last night in Las Vegas. Chris gave a 3-hour-long acceptance speech, so we'll paraphrase here and just say "Thank You" on Chris' behalf. ;) Congrats, Chris!

Great Time to Get Work Done

It's gorgeous outside. The sun's been shining all day and I have to say, when the sun's out, I think everyone's attitude changes. Let's face it - months and months of clouds and gray colors gets old. Even I get cranky! But anyway, on the way into the park today, I snapped a photo from the main parking lot. I thought it looked cool, so I'll share: Love it. Coming in to this view every day never gets old. Never. Speaking of not getting old, we have a brand new ride that's being constructed. One interesting fun fact about the construction process: because the site is so cramped (vehicles, people, equipment all moving at the same time), workers are pre-fabricating some of the pieces over on the midway. These pieces are things like walls, supports, trusses for the station roof. Here's a piece of the station that's waiting for installation: I'll stay off the "rapid" jokes and just say they're moving fast out there. This allows them to just "drop" assembled pieces into place. Makes things a lot easier. More photos of the ride from today will soon be posted to the Shoot the Rapids construction gallery.

Ride On, Rock On

Have you heard the news? Our Cedar Fair parks are teaming up with MTV Games to bring you an all-new show called, "Rock Band™, Live." What is it? It's an interactive musical experience. There's a lot to explain, but here's the skinny: The show will play all summer at Cedar Point and at Canada's Wonderland. Our other parks will be "tour stops" on a cross-country Rock Band extravaganza. The show itself has live singers, performing numerous hits from the Rock Band games. However, at the end of the show, one lucky person gets to join the group on stage to perform the last number. Oh, and they'll be playing a Rock Band gaming accessory (drums, guitar or bass) during that last song. We'll choose this winner prior to each show as they compete playing Rock Band with their friends outside the Jack Aldrich Theatre. Again, more details later, but the fun part (at least for me) is that I'll be heading to New York tomorrow through Friday to be on hand for the singer auditions. While I'm there, I'll be tweeting on our Twitter page (@cedarpoint) and uploading photos to Twitter and our Facebook fan page. A "Before the Storm" Update

Jennie Goes On Vacation

The Cedar Point & Lake Erie Railroad is a bit of an oddity - it's one of the only steam-powered, amusement park rail systems left in the United States. And make no mistake, it takes a LOT to keep this system up and running. After all, it's the biggest ride workhorse in our arsenal of 75 rides, transporting nearly 2 million guests in 2009 alone. That's more guests than any other ride. So yeah, the train's pretty important. But here's something you don't see every day: That's the Jennie K., wrapped in our famous blue shrink wrap, ready for a journey across the country to California. She's heading out to our sister park, Knott's Berry Farm for refurbishment. Jennie was built in 1940 and was sold to Cedar Point in 1964, one year after the C.P. & L.E. began service. It was rebuilt in 1967 and was named "Jennie K." after the wife of the first railroad superintendent, Jack Foster. The "K" comes from Jack's granddaughter, "Kathy." It last ran here in 1988 and is now due for refurbishment. No word yet on when it will return, but it's an extensive job that could take over a year. We shot some great video of the loading process. You betcha. Lots of it. And because of the thick fog, a ride on Dragster would be pretty epic right about now. Just caught this photo from the DragsterCam: A true "Race for the Sky" as you disappear into the clouds. Now, if I could just find maintenance to get it cranked up...
