OnPoint! - The Cedar Point Blog http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/index.cfm We'll take you 'Behind the Midways', and give you an insider's view of the Best Amusement Park on the Planet 8 years in a row! en-us Fri, 24 Jun 2005 09:00:00 EST A Special Message http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/2010/8/31/A_Special_Message.cfm Friends,

It's time for a transition. And before I go any further, let me be clear that this is NOT an April Fool's joke (you know, since we pulled a fast one on you back in April).

I've announced my departure from America's Roller Coast to pursue another life adventure. Not an easy decision, but I'm excited at the opportunities ahead.

I want to say thank you for being so supportive, intrigued and genuinely interested in Cedar Point and in the industry as a whole. You've really made this job fun and it's something I know I'll take with me.

Tyler is also retiring from the blog, although not from Cedar Point. His added responsibilities will make it near impossible for him to update on a frequent basis. But he's still here - and he'll still be causing trouble!

The blog as we know it will quietly fade. And who knows - it may return sometime in the future. But in the meantime, don't forget to visit our Facebook page and our Twitter page for the latest updates on all things Cedar Point.

Thanks again, and I look forward to seeing you on the midways - this time, as a guest! RIDE ON!

Whoops! http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/2010/8/23/Whoops%21.cfm Ok, so I'll admit it's been awhile since we've been back here to blog. But trust me, it's for a very good reason.

We've been working hard on something we'll be announcing in a little more than 24 hours. But in the meantime, here's a piece of the work:

We announce our 2011 news tomorrow at 2 p.m. on our Facebook page. Be there, or be round. Yes, round.

Madness http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/2010/8/10/Madness.cfm Can I just tell you how crazy it is here sometimes? Not only is the park open and we have to handle the business on a daily basis, but we're planning for the future, keeping the park in order AND handling whatever comes up, whenever it comes up.

Take the past few days for example. We had two well-known guests at the park. First, actress & singer Miley Cyrus spent some time at the park on Friday, riding rides and taking a break from filming her new movie, "LOL: Laughing Out Loud."

Here, she's seen on Millennium Force with a few of her friends:

Then, yesterday, LeBron James took some time off and hung out with friends & family at the park. And drew quite a bit of attention:

You should know that LeBron played a few games in the park - and he and his friends gave their prizes to kids who were watching them play. Pretty sweet.

But all of that shouldn't overshadow the most important well-known guest of all: Snoopy!

We celebrated 60 years of PEANUTS on Sunday! The PEANUTS pals were all ready for a party:

Snoopy couldn't wait to open his present at Planet Snoopy, and many of our guests stopped by to help:

But finally, the present was opened and there were chocolate chip cookies inside for everyone. The kids loved it; the parents loved it; it was a great time.

Etch A Coaster http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/2010/7/31/Etch_A_Coaster.cfm On most days, our employees are attending to their daily duties - cleaning midways, running rides, serving food and helping guests pick the perfect souvenir.

But many of our employees have hidden talents. Take Jane for example. Jane worked as a sweep up until this past week.

Jane's a bit of an artist and is studying at the American Academy of Art in Chicago. What is she studying exactly?

Etch A Sketch art. Yes. Etch A Sketch. The fun, sandy art pads with the white knobs that most of us played with as a kid. You design, you draw then you shake it up and do it all over again.

Jane's been honing her artistic skills on the device since she was 4. And obviously, that's a lot of practice from then to now.

That brings us to her last-minute project on her last day of work a few days ago. That would be this:

Yeah. That's the CP skyline on three mini Etch A Sketch's. Seriously. The meticulous detail is amazing. Oh, and by the way, she did this before her shift. All three in a matter of a few hours.

Here's a closer look at the detail:

Jane is off to Los Angeles where she'll participate in an internship to boost her skills on the E A S. Pretty sweet, huh?

Perhaps some of her work will turn up at Knott's Berry Farm? We'll see!

Good luck, Jane - and thanks for your service at CP!

Gone Fishin' http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/2010/7/25/Gone_Fishin%27.cfm You may or may not know this, but we now offer fishing trips to guests at the park! They depart daily from the Cedar Point Marina and you get to spend 2 hours out on the waters around the park.

I recently attempted to fish. I say "attempted" because that's exactly what I did.

To read more info about the trips, click here.

To watch me make a fool out of myself, enjoy this video:

Fearsome Foursome Challenge http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/2010/7/19/Fearsome_Foursome_Challenge.cfm By now, you've probably seen the new show, "Bert the Conqueror" on the Travel Channel. And by now, you've seen the Cedar Point episode where Bert conquers the Fearsome Foursome Challenge.

And we've received a gazillion (what IS a gazillion anyway?) requests for you to try it.

What is it? You have to ride our 4 tallest coasters in an hour. No line jumping, no special treatment - just normal, every day waiting in line.

Can it be done? Yes! But you can't just do it on your own. A member of our staff needs to follow you to monitor your progress.

Keep in mind: because demand is so high, we are unable to accommodate all requests. However, to apply to do the FFC, head to our contact form, fill out your info and mention "Fearsome Foursome Challenge." Your info will be forwarded to the appropriate person and you'll be contacted.

Again, due to popularity, do not be offended or disappointed if we are unable to schedule you to do the challenge. But good luck - and RIDE ON!

That Poll... http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/2010/7/11/That_Poll%2E%2E%2E.cfm So we asked a question a while ago on our Point Poll - how many coasters can you see from the viewing deck at Shoot the Rapids?

The correct answer is 7, although most though it was a trick question. It wasn't. The deck makes for some good photos, btw. You should check it out.

Speaking of polls, let's go ahead and throw a new one up there. This one's a little more...how do we put it...fun?

Get your guesses in...the fun has begun!

Coasting for a Cure http://www.cedarpoint.com/public/fun/blog/2010/7/5/Coasting_for_a_Cure.cfm We hope you enjoyed or are enjoying the 4th of July weekend. Although it's HOT out, we still witnessed many families having a blast at Cedar Point & Soak City this weekend.

We recently found out about something pretty cool that we wanted to pass along. A husband and wife team are heading to eight of our Cedar Fair parks to raise money for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, an organization that supports pancreatic cancer research and education.

They'll be at Cedar Point on Friday, July 9th, riding our coasters and raising awareness for their cause, so if you see them, say hi and give them your support.

To find out more about their efforts or to make a donation, visit the Coasters for a Cure website.

Good luck to Jonathan and his wife!
