STR: The Update

February 4, 2010 1:36 PM

If you've been watching our webcams, you've noticed that workers are now placing the steel portions of Shoot the Rapids.

The steel on the ride consists of the two lifts, two drops and portions of the station.

Workers are placing steel on the island first, then they'll move back over to the mainland to finish up.

Also, workers are digging and pouring the base for the concrete flume portion of the ride, which is basically the curvy bits between the lift hills and drops.

Here's a little taste of that:

Check out the full construction update over in the construction gallery.

Are the lifts going to be chain lifts, or magnetic lifts, like maverick, or a different style? There is a support in the center of the lift hill where a chain might go. Just Curious.

  • From Tony:

Both of the lifts are chain-operated.

Are you guys going to show the station after it's done?

  • From Tony & Tyler:

We'll show all parts of the project as they're built.

Our Family is excited about riding this new Ride. Our 2 oldest espically they can ride and ride all day at your park. Looking forward to see it complete and done.

  • From Tony & Tyler:

We're looking forward to having you here!

Are the boats always on tracks within the troughs?

  • From Tony:

The boats will only be on "tracks" when they're going up (and down) the hills. The boats will float freely through the concrete troughs.

I usually am the non-rider when it comes to water rides. With that in mind, I was wondering if there will be an area near the ride where I can wait for my soon-to-be-wet group?

  • From Tony & Tyler:

Tony, we haven't yet talked about the midway - we can assure you that you'll have a great view of your friends. There's also another surprise up our sleeves, but we'll wait on that one!

Will the channels and curve sections be cast in situ or are the already pre cast ready to be lifted in ?

  • From Tony & Tyler:

We'll be pouring the trough at the site.
